Beijing 2

We were rushed through the forbidden city and it was also packed but it was still great to see. it is massive, super super huge. probably for all of the concubine residences there. so many interesting little pieces of information though. like the ground was purposely made very rocky and uneven so that when people were walking towards the emperor they would have to stare at their feet to not trip, but it is also a sign of respect to look down

this is a rock garden at the forbidden city. the emperor chose this type of rock because he thought it was sexy and reminded him of naked women

the main mode of transportation in beijing. i dont know why this trend of riding bikes in china and japan hasent caught on in korea

this is another happy worker at a silk factory. i cant beleive that silk actually comes from worms. i mean i alwats knew that i guess, but seeing the process that they have to go through to make even a strand of silk is crazy! it's so weird that someone even discovered how to make silk and make things from silk. there were some gorgeous things there and im having regrets about not buying the cheap silk duvets
one of our last stops was the temple of heaven. outside the temple there is a massive park and on sundays it is FULL of people doing every kind of activity you can think of. there were people playing card games, singing, dancing, playing hacky sack, playing sports, playing instruments. it was really cool because it was inclusive for anyone that wanted to join in. the only strange part of this park was that you werent actually allowed on the grass.....
all in all, china was incredible. the people were wonderful, the shopping was great (even though you litterally had to fight with these crazy sales ladies) and the sights were fantastic.
if you actually read this, leave me a message- im starting to think im writing this for myself and my dad- just want to see how many people are still "enjoying" this!!

just to make sure all the world knows I took those fabulous pictures of you and alan. should I post some of the less fabulous ones? You are right though, Beijing is fascinating and it was too, too much to take in and loved the full contact shopping... "hey lady, you are my first customer today..." "hey lady, I remember you...."

Hi Julie,
I am a (business) friend of your Dad - I read it and wish you would write more often. I enjoy your writing and love hearing about your experiences.
We have new next -door neighbours, just arrived from Korea for three years. Maybe you can give some Korean cultural advice. I'm not sure, but I think we are continually insulting them! By the way the Korean neighbour's job is to hire Canadians to teach English in Korea.
Please keep writing for those of us who have been lurking and enjoying your blog since the beginning.
