Some random pictures, more to come!!
The Church in Piedades that is famous for it's stained glass windows, according to the Lonely Planet. Also, all churches in CR face West. True in other countries??
Man at the farmers market in Santa Ana
Some of our friends were dj'ing at a party in the mountains, a view from where we stopped for lunch
A hike that we did on one of the hills near our house
Las Cataracas in La Fortuna. Jurrasic Park? We rode horses for about an hour to get there, climbed down 500 steps to the waterfall, went swimming in the freezing cold water and rode the horses back. Fun? I'll let you decide. No of course it was, but horseback riding always sounds better than it actually ends up being. I just sit there petrified that it's going to take off at any second and I'm going to go flying off the back. Actually my horse did fall while we were going down a hill and rolled on top of me, it's lucky that I'm still here to tell the story.
* Part of that last sentence may or may not be true.
A Costa Rican License Plate. The traffic is so bad in San Jose that they just passed a law only allowing license plates ending in certain numbers to drive into the city each day. There are about 750 000 habitants that actually live in the city but about another 750 000 that come into work each day. The entire population of CR is only about 4 million.
The coolest frog ever. Our guide, aka my friend Jared, found it under a leaf. It was sleeping but we woke him up to take some pictures. Poor little guy. He had the biggest red eyes and his underside was really colourful.
Some old men in a sleepy little town.
Alexis, Grant, Jared and Tadeo walking down Playa Grande just before a huge storm
Grant, Jared and Tadeo on a log
Playa Grande where I took my friend Jared who was visiting for the week. We rented an "apartment" for the weekend
Alexis, Tadeo, my Mama and I in front of the Poas Volcano Crater. Because it is the rainy season the fog rolls in fairly early and we didn't get there in time to see it. We couldn't see 2 feet in front of us for the most part of the day. A cold, windy, rainy trip for nothing except a quick glimpse when the wind moved the fog half way out.
My two visitors- Jared and my mom- at the Danaus Ecocenter where Jared volunteered for a few days. They are holding a turtle skull and Monkey Pot
Mom in front of Arenal Volcano, one of the active volcanoes in CR that erupts every night. We went to see it, and saw some lava but not a ton. Again the rainy season bad luck
Last night we went to Santa Ana, the biggest town in the area, for their annual festival. The party lasts for 2 weeks and each day is a different theme, last night was the dance part. A lot of 8 year olds in frilly dresses and handkerchiefs. But the absolute best part was the town drunk in front of the stage, who was either trying to imitate them or break dance on the pavement.
